Debuts to Look Out for in 2017 – Part 2

Hey again!

So here’s the second part of my list, for the debuts I am waiting for patiently (trying) in 2017. Like before, no chronological or alphabetical order here.

6. River of Teeth, by Sarah Gailey (May 23)

No cover yet, but the setting is insanely cool. An alternate history where hunger strikes the US, so they decide to import hippos to farm their meat in Louisiana! Not only that, but things quickly get out of hand, and it seems the hippos are not exactly “domestic” animals. Whoa, even writing those couple of lines down sounds exciting!

7. Gilded Cage, by Vic James (February 14)

Another alternate world, this time in England, where magic wielders are the higher “caste” of the society and they get to enslave the others. From what I’ve heard it seems that Ms. James has crafted a nicely deep world and a thrilling story, something to really look out for.

8. Blood Rose Rebellion, by Rosalyn Eves (March 28)

Again, here we have a strong family of magic wielders, but one of its members, young Anna, is not, and — of course — is living the life of an outcast, thriving for respect. Enter some politics, add a brewing rebellion, and an incident after another that shows nothing is as it seems. I like that premise a lot, waiting to see how it will unfold.

9. The Waking Land, by Callie Bates (June 27)

A young lady adopted by a king wakes up one day to find him murdered, and is immediately accused of the crime. Why, you say? Because her biological father is a traitor! Now she has a lot to go through, including returning to her homeland, and dealing with a bunch of hidden powers. It’s intriguing to see how Ms. Bates will handle such a promising tale.

10. Empress of a Thousand Skies, by Rhoda Belleza (February 7)

A royal family that rules a galaxy. An assassination that spares only the princess. A bloody war and a ton of political intrigue. Sounds good? Yup, I thought so, too. Mark your calendar for next month.

Hope you like those, see ya next time!
